Sema is a part of the traditions and beliefs of Turkish history and was formed and developed with the inspiration of Hz. Mevlana (1207-1273). It represents a spiritual journey (Mirâcı) towards perfection, a going and coming. In semahanes, neyzen, kudümzen, naathan, and ayinhans form the music group called "Mutrıp". In Mevlevihanes, the pieces played and sung by this music group during the sema recital, composed by Mevlevi composers to accompany the sema, are called Mevlevi ceremonies. The main parts of these pieces are composed from Persian poems taken from Mevlana's Mesnevi or Divan-ı Kebir. This music has a very important function in terms of Turkish Music history and is a composition and performance fund that has well preserved the characteristics of the SUFI music style in the world. There is a Sheikh Postu right across from the entrance to the semahane. The sacred line called "Hatt-ı İstiva", which is assumed to be between the post and the entrance, divides the semahane into two semicircles and the whirling dervishes pass across this invisible line without stepping on it or turning their backs. The red post is the highest spiritual station, and its color represents birth and existence. After the mutrip and the whirling dervishes salute the Sheep Post, they take their places and the Sema Ceremony begins.Sema consists of 7 sections. Each section has a different meaning. When we examine Sema from a scientific perspective, we see the following; The basic condition of existence is spinning. The common similarity between beings is the spinning of the electrons and protons in the atoms that constitute their structure, from the smallest particle to the farthest stars. Just as everything rotates, human beings also rotate naturally and unconsciously with the existing rotations in the atoms that constitute their structure, with the rotation of the blood in their body, coming from soil and returning to soil, and rotating together with the world. However, what makes human beings different and superior to other beings is their mind. Here, the rotating WHIRLING DERVISH makes the mind participate in the common movement of beings together with their SEMA is the servant's annihilation into the truth and his return to his servitude as a mature, perfect human being. It is his return to all existence, all created beings with a new spirit, for love and service. The semazen takes off his cardigan, is born spiritually to the eternal world, to the truth, and travels there. His coin on his head (his soul's gravestone), his tennure on him (his soul's shroud). The semazen, who crosses his arms and apparently represents the number ONE, thus confirming the oneness of Allah, while Sema, his arms are open, his right hand is up to the heavens as if in prayer, and his left hand, which he looks at with the eye of God, is down to the earth. It is his spreading the favor he receives from God to the people. It is his embracing all people, all created beings, with love and passion with all his heart, by turning from right to left.
